The Joseph Black Building

The chemistry building at the University of Glasgow was designed by T. Harold Hughes in the 1930s and is built in a style that combines monumental classicism with art moderne. To this day it remains a living, thriving, ever-changing community with many layers of history and intertwining personal journeys of researchers, technicians, students, cleaners and lost visitors. In many of these pictures, the scafolding needed for the current renovations is visible through the windows.
